Augsburg College Gospel Praise Choir to participate in National Service-Learning Conference opening ceremony
Augsburg College's Gospel Praise Choir music group will perform at 8 a.m. Monday at the Minneapolis Convention Center in the opening ceremony of the ninth annual National Service-Learning Conference.
In addition, Augsburg assistant professor and band director Robert Stacke is in charge of the opening ceremony, which will include marching bands and flag troops in a processional that will involve approximately 3,000 people.
As part of the conference, titled "One World: Youth at the Center," the Augsburg campus has been selected for a site visit from 2-3:30 p.m. on Monday. Forty students will visit Augsburg during the visit, which has the following schedule:
2:00 p.m. Welcome to Augsburg
2:05 p.m. Lois Olson, Director of the Augsburg Center for Service, Work and Learning
2:15 p.m. Mary Laurel True and Merrie Benasutti, Community Service- Learning Program
2:25 p.m. Kala Dable, Student Commissioner, Augsburg LINK
2:35 p.m. Leave for Cedar Riverside Community School
2:45 p.m. Meet with Cedar Riverside Community School teachers and professor Joe Erickson from Augsburg's Education Department
3:05 p.m. Come back to Augsburg for refreshments
3:15 p.m. Meet with professor Susan O'Connor, Augsburg Education Department
3:30 p.m. Adjourn
The conference will take place from Sunday through Wednesday at the Hyatt Regency Minneapolis on Nicollet Mall as well as the Minneapolis Convention Center. The conference's focus this year is on youth leadership, civil society, environmental stewardship and international links.
