Augsburg College to host public forum, "Census 2000: A Call to Action"
Augsburg College will host a free public forum titled "Census 2000: A Call to Action," on Monday from 1-3 p.m. in the college's Foss Center (located at 625 - 22nd Avenue South, Minneapolis).
The purpose of the forum is to educate the public about how the upcoming census will be conducted, the benefits of the census and to promote participation in the census so a complete count can be achieved.
The forum will include an address by Yusef Mgeni, executive director of the Urban Coalition, titled, "The Community Voice: In Response to the Call." A panel discussion with a question and answer period will follow Mgeni's address. Henry Palacios, regional director for the U.S. Department of the Census, will be among the panelists.
This forum is being sponsored by the Urban Coalition and Augsburg's Pan-Afrikan Center and Community Service-Learning Office in partnership with Minnesota Planning and the U.S. Bureau of the Census.
Street parking is available around the Foss Center, and additional parking is available in the ramp across the street at 24th and Riverside avenues.
(NOTE TO MEDIA: If you are planning to attend the forum, please RSVP to Dan Benson from Augsburg's Public Relations office, and a media kit will be made available. Members of the media with questions about the United States Census 2000 can call Bernie DuClos at 612-334-4360 or visit the census's Web site.
