Augsburg College receives $760,000 McNair grant
Augsburg College has been awarded a four-year, $760,000 grant from the Ronald E. McNair Postbaccalaureate Achievement Program of the United States Department of Education.
The intent of the McNair program is to enroll more low-income, first-generation college students and/or underrepresented students in Ph.D. programs with an eventual outcome of entering the profession of college or university teaching.
The Augsburg program will serve students by providing them with a research experience with mentor faculty, opportunities to participate in a teaching mentorship, and assistance in applying for admission to Ph.D. programs and obtaining financial aid.
There are two other McNair Programs in Minnesota-at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and the College of St. Scholastica, said Marie McNeff, Augsburg vice president of academic and learning services.
McNeff said a director for Augsburg's program will be named by the end of the summer.
