A day of games for children with developmental and physical disabilities on the Augsburg College campus
A fundamental part of being an Augsburg College student is devotion to community service. On Nov. 14, health and physical education students from Augsburg College spent the day interacting with 200 students with developmental and physical disabilities in grades 3-6 from the Twin Cities area at the Sports Extravaganza Day. In its third year, this event took place in the Anderson-Nelson Field air structure.
Children from area school districts spent the day with the college students playing a variety of games such as balloon volleyball, soccer and jump rope. Participating schools included Hopkins; Orono; Shakopee; Bloomington; Mounds View; Stillwater; Apple Valley; North St. Paul/Oakdale; Brooklyn Center; Burnsville; and Minneapolis.
The college students shared positive messages with the children and encouraged them to do their best. At the end of the day, all the children received participation ribbons.
