Concert Band to perform I Believe
The Augsburg College Concert Band will join with two area choirs in a special performance of Brendan Anderson's piece I Believe, on Sunday, November 24, 3 p.m., at Central Lutheran Church in downtown Minneapolis.
Written and composed by Anderson, a 2002 Augsburg graduate, and native of Mankato, Minn., I Believe, is based on the text of the Apostle's Creed. "I wanted to take all the concepts, images, and the action of the Creed and shape it all into a dramatic piece that would make people realize just how important and dramatic this statement of faith is," said Anderson in a recent interview.
The performance will also feature choirs from Holy Nativity Lutheran Church, New Hope, MN; Anoka-Ramsey College Chamber Choir, Anoka, MN; and Somerset High School choir, Somerset, WI.
The program will include several selections from the Augsburg College Band, other pieces by the choirs, and a special arrangement by Band Director Robert Stacke in honor of Skeets Langley, an Augsburg alum who will be presented with the "Distinguished Band Alum" award. Langley, a world-renowned accordionist, now makes his home in the Minneapolis area.
