Augsburg's Cesky, Chezick named MIAC Hockey Players of the Year
Augsburg College hockey forwards Jaro Cesky (Sr., Prague, Czech Republic) and Lauren Chezick (So., Hastings, Minn.) were named 2002-03 Players of the Year in men's hockey and women's hockey, respectively, in the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference on Wednesday. It marks just the second time that one school has swept conference Player of the Year honors in men's and women's hockey.
Cesky, who was named to the All-MIAC first team all four years of his college career, finished second in the conference in scoring in conference games (eight goals, 15 assists, 23 points), leading the league in assists. Including all games, Cesky was the top scorer among MIAC players (16 goals, 23 assists, 39 points) this season.
Chezick, named first-team All-MIAC in her freshman and sophomore years, currently leads the nation's Division III women's hockey statistics in total scoring (2.24 points per game). This season, he more than doubled her scoring output, leading the team and setting single-season school records with 53 points and 31 assists, while scoring 25 goals — just three away from the single-season school mark. She has led the team in scoring each season and is on pace to become Augsburg's career scoring leader.
Both Augsburg's men's and women's teams will compete in the MIAC postseason playoffs this weekend, with a shot at earning berths in the NCAA Division III national tournaments. For more information, check out Augsburg's athletics page at http://www.augsburg.edu/athletics.
