Best Buy vice chair and chief executive officer to speak at Christensen Symposium
Augsburg College opens the first of its 2003-2004 Convocation Series with speaker Brad H. Anderson, vice chairman and chief executive officer of Best Buy Co., Inc. on Tuesday, Sept. 30, 11 a.m., Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center. Anderson will address the topic, "Changing the Business of Business: Vocation in the Marketplace."
Anderson joined Best Buy as a sales person in 1973. For more than 30 years, he advanced through administrative ranks, was elected to the board of directors in 1986, and served as vice chairman, president and chief operating officer before being named CEO in February 2002. He has an associate degree from Waldorf Junior College and a bachelor's degree from the University of Denver.
Anderson serves on the board of the Best Buy Children's Foundation, the International Mass Retail Association, National Junior Achievement, and Waldorf College.
This year's Convocation series theme is "Making the Most of Your Gifts." This series of seven convocations will challenge us to consider all work as vocation. Seeing what we do as vocation emphasizes the importance of identifying our gifts and abilities, and of bringing them to bear on problems and situations that benefit the community while providing opportunity to live out our passions and dreams.
