Augsburg College Theatre Arts presents The Pirates of Penzance
The Augsburg College Theatre Arts Department will present a Fall Theatre Production of The Pirates of Penzance from October 31 - November 9.
The Pirates of Penzance or the Slave of Duty, which premiered in 1879, is a delightful Victorian operetta created by the gifted writer-composer team William S. Gilbert and Arthur P. Sullivan. The piece gently pokes fun at Victorian high society with all of its prudishness, sentimentality, and respectability. Pirates features Gilbert’s ridiculous dramatic situations, clever lyrics, and comically twisted plots, woven together musically by Sullivan’s elegant, colorful and charming score.
Directed by Karen Coe Miller, with musical direction by Sonja Thompson, The Pirates of Penzance will be performed October 31, November 1, 6, 7, 8 at 7 p.m. and Nov. 2, 9 at 2 p.m. in the Augsburg College Tjornhom-Nelson Theater, Foss Center.
Tickets for this production are $10 general public; $8 ACTC faculty, staff, and students; $6 Augsburg students and children under age 12.
