Richard Bresnahan lecture: "The Japanese Tea Ceremony as a Model for 21st Century Environmentalism"
The ceramic artist Richard Bresnahan will be giving a public lecture at Augsburg College on Friday, March 5 in conjunction with the exhibition "Continuities: Recent Work from the Johanna Kiln." The artist will discuss four aspects of the Japanese Tea Ceremony–tea gardens, architecture, food, and ceramics–as a model for environmentalism. By explaining how these components function in a historical Japanese context and also as a contemporary model that can be integrated into American culture, Bresnahan will illuminated how the Tea Ceremony provides a rich avenue of ideas for keeping nature-based systems and lived systems in balance with one another.
The Bresnahan lecture begins at 5 p.m. in Lindell Library 16 and will be followed by a reception outside the Gage Family Art Gallery (located on the second floor of Lindell Library). These events are generously sponsored by the Grotto Foundation and are free and open to the public.
