Native American Indian Film Series

The Augsburg Native American Film Series in collaboration with Independent Indigenous Film Minneapolis invite you to participate in the 2005 Native American Film Series, to be held on the Augsburg College campus.

The events, to be held Feb. - April, will include a film followed by discussion.

Movie: River People: Behind the Case of David Sohappy, presented by Joe Underhill-Cady, River Rat and Professor of Political Science

This is the story of David Sohappy, a native American spiritual leader who was sentenced to a five-year prison term for selling 317 salmon out of season. For twenty years Sohappy has fished in open defiance of state and federal fishing laws. He claims he has an ancestral right to fish along Oregon’s Columbia River. As a result, he has become a symbol of resistance for indigenous people of the Northwest United States and beyond.
