Jason Davis of 5 Eyewitness News to speak at Augsburg November 4
Five-time Emmy Award winner Jason Davis, host and executive producer of "5 EYEWITNESS NEWS On The Road with Jason Davis" will speak Friday, Nov. 4, at 6 p.m. in the Minneapolis Room, Christensen Center, on both his work and on journalism and its relevance to today's society. His talk is free and open to all. Those attending are welcome to bring either brown bag suppers or cafeteria trays to the presentation.
From "On The Water" To "On The Road," Davis has covered the world with over 33 years experience in broadcast journalism. Born in London, England, he spent his early years traveling "On The Water" as a British merchant seaman. He settled in Australia in 1964, where he began his career in television news four years later. Jason joined 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS in 1976, and he has been informing and captivating viewers ever since.
Davis has won numerous awards, including a 2004 regional Edward R. Murrow award for a documentary on Stillwater prison, called "The Inside Story." In October 2000, Jason was inducted into the NATAS Silver Circle for twenty-four years of contributing news reports, feature stories and documentaries to Twin Cities' television. The Silver Circle is the highest honor awarded by the National Television Academy. It celebrates a lifetime of excellence in the broadcast industry, honoring individual contributions both to the television community and to the community at large. In addition to the Silver Circle Award that year, Jason took home the Emmy in two categories: Public Affairs and Documentary. He has won every major regional award for feature, documentary, investigative, and sport news — including the first Emmy awarded in 5 EYEWITNESS NEWS' history.
He is appearing as a guest speaker for Dan Jorgensen's Weekend College journalism class, which has moved to the Minneapolis Room in order to allow for others to hear Davis' presentation. In addition to speaking, Davis will show video clips from some of his award-winning "On the Road" features.
