The first-year students at Augsburg College soon realized that the City and citizenship remain a distinctive focus of an Augsburg education. Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak was on hand to help kick-off the "Opening Celebration" in Foss Center.
After the event to commemorate the start of Augsburg's 137th year, the students left campus in their AugSem groups and headed to various "City Service Project" sites in the community surrounding Augsburg. The new students worked at 18 different sites this year including the Cedar Cultural Center, Korean Social Services, Our Saviour's Shelter, Friends of the Mississippi River, and more. The students together with their orientation leaders and AugSem faculty and staff engaged in a combined total of over 1000 hours of service.
