The 2005 Sverdrup Visiting Scientist Lecture
8 p.m. Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center
John
A. Turner, principal scientist at the Center for Electric & Hydrogen
Technologies & Systems at the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in
Golden, Colo., will be the guest speaker at the 2005 Sverdrup Visiting Scientist
Lecture, 8 p.m. April 11, in the Hoversten Chapel, Foss Center.Turner’s lecture will focus on identifying and building a sustainable energy system, which he describes as being perhaps one of the most critical issues that today’s society must address. He will introduce the sustainable hydrogen economy and address some of the issues and barriers relating to its deployment as part of a sustainable energy system.
Turner received his B.S. degree from Idaho State University, his Ph.D. from Colorado State University, and completed a postdoctoral appointment at the California Institute of Technology before joining the National Renewable Energy Laboratory in 1979. His research is primarily concerned with enabling technologies for the implementation of hydrogen systems into the energy infrastructure.
He has twice received
the Midwestern Research Institute President’s Award for Exceptional
Performance in Research. In addition, he has received the Hydrogen Technical
advisory Panel award for Research Excellence, and an Outstanding Mentor
Award from the U.S. Department of Energy for his work with undergraduate
students.
