Jane Jeong Trenka, a 1995 alumna of Augsburg College, discusses social justice in relation to transracial adoption and memory/writing as a site of resistance. She has been awarded fellowships from the Jerome Foundation, the Minnesota State Arts Board, The Loft Literary Center, SASE: The Write Place, Blacklock Nature Sanctuary, and others. She graduated magna cum laude from Augsburg with degrees in music performance and English literature. Her publications include prose and poetry. Her memoir, "The Language of Blood," was cited by the Minnesota Humanities Commission for a "New Voice" commendation and received the Minnesota Book Award for "Autobiography/Memoir." It was also chosen as a Barnes & Noble "Great New Writers" selection and was named "Best Book by a Local Author" by City Pages weekly newspaper.
The 2004-05 Augsburg Convocation Series—"Justice for All"— is the fifth annual series incorporating long-standing endowed and special programs of Augsburg, and programs sponsored by the Augsburg Student Government. This academic year the series includes the following programs: the Christensen Symposium, the Sverdrup Visiting Scientist Lecture, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation, and the Batalden Seminar in Applied Ethics.
