Mary Francis Berry to speak at the Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation Jan. 15, 2007
The 19th Annual Martin Luther King Jr. Convocation will be held Jan. 15, 2007, 1 p.m. in Hoversten Chapel with guest Mary Francis Berry, professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania
Berry has been the Geraldine R. Segal Professor of American Social Thought and a professor of history at the University of Pennsylvania since 1987. In addition, she has held a distinguished career in public service. From 1980-2004, Berry was a member of the U.S. Commission on Civil Rights. She has also served as the assistant secretary for education in the U.S. Department of Health, Education, and Welfare. She is the author of seven books and the recipient of 32 honorary doctoral degrees and numerous awards.
