Transitions and Discoveries: Young alums reflect on their Augsburg theatre experiences
The "real world" of theatre is not something that Augsburg theatre students need to await with trepidation – they experience it from day one. The Augsburg College theater department is made up of a supportive faculty who bring their own extensive blend of professional experiences while drawing upon the rich, urban environment. (Minneapolis is home to the second highest number of theatres per capita after New York City.) The department secures internships in professional theatre and exposes students to theatre artists at all stages of their education. Here, two recent alums who are literally putting their theatre majors to work share their stories.

Having the opportunity to work with a professional theater company before you’ve even graduated from college is something you don’t think twice about. Unless you’re me.
By having two internships with two vastly different Minneapolis theater companies, Open Eye Figure Theatre and the Jungle Theater, I was given a unique chance to study what lies ahead while I was still studying for finals.
Nancy Waldoch: Internship to Career
As a transfer student to Augsburg, I can honestly attest that another
college would not have prepared me as well for this potentially rocky
transition that I now find myself in – the transition from student
to working adult.
In my three years at Augsburg I acted, directed, stage-managed, built
sets and props, installed lights, ran soundboard, helped out in the costume
shop, and more. Through Augsburg’s Artists Series, I got to hear
the stories of Twin Cities theatre professionals from a variety of specialties,
which helped expand my theatrical focus. I came to love and appreciate
every aspect of theatre.
