Alums honored by Admission Possible
Carolyn Herman and Tessa Flynn, both 2005 Augsburg graduates and current AmeriCorps volunteers, were honored June 22 by Admission Possible as the AmeriCorps Members of the Year at Admission Possible. AmeriCorps volunteers work with this program to help economically disadvantaged students gain college admission.
Herman, an English major who has been assigned to Patrick Henry High School in Minneapolis, has helped all 34 of her seniors gain admission to college, and has helped them raise nearly $175,000 in scholarships. In the fall Herman will travel to the University of Hyderabad as a Rotary Ambassador Scholar to continue her study of literature.
Flynn, a theatre arts and communication major, has worked at North High School, and also helped all her 34 seniors gain admission to college, with nearly $250,000 in scholarships having been awarded.
In addition, Minneapolis mayor R.T. Rybak proclaimed June 22 as Carolyn Herman Day in Minneapolis, and June 24 as Tessa Flynn Day, for "serving the citizens of Minneapolis admirably, with passion, pride, and unending commitment to [their high schools] and to [their] students."
